Good Internet, Bad Internet

Technology is a pretty funny thing if you think about it.

From about 2003 to today, I had a blog with a TON of personal info & photos that was available to anyone's eyes. Originally it was a way to keep my college friends up to date with my affairs. In my website's heyday, I was pulling in a couple hundred hits a day. For a nobody, that's pretty good.

This was in the beginning of personal websites and blogs. Before Myspace, before Facebook. Everyone thought it was ok.

But then, like everything else America does, we over did it. People collectively put WAY too much shit out there, way too fast. The technology was available, so why not?

Then slowly everyone realized that if you put your life out there, people will find it. People you do want to find it, and people you don't want to find it. There are no filters. I say slowly because I think there are still a lot of people who put too much info out there.

I have taken steps backwards, trying to eliminate myself from cyberspace. I don't want to be found during a google search. That's scary shit man. Today I deactivated over 100 stories from this website and will leave only this one.

It makes me sad, because there are damn good stories written by me. But they're not for everyone's eyes.

The Internet is amazing. For every good aspect, there is an equally bad aspect. A Schrodenger's Cat. It scares the shit out of me, and at the same time I need it.

This conflict is why I'm keeping my website. Maybe in 7 more years it will be time to turn it back on. Only time will tell.

Cheers, for now. Joe.
